A Quick Guide To Plitvice Lake
Considered one of the oldest and most beautiful national parks in Europe. It’s no surprise this place has this status when you see Plitvice Lake with your own eye! (Let along in photos) Named as a UNESCO Heritage sites, Plitvice Lake National Park is located in the centre of Croatia. The national park is world-famous for its clear turquoise lakes arranged in cascades from several small rivers and subterranean karst rivers. 2 years ago, I had the pleasure of visiting the magnificent country of Croatia with a few friends.
Ever since I found out about Plitvice Lake I had to include it into our MUST SEE list! This place definitely did not disappoint and I can’t wait for the next time I’ll get to visit it again! If this isn’t on your bucket list of places to go, don’t miss out and put it on there now! Since one of the best times to go and visit in around this time, I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to write up a quick guide on how to get to Plitvice Lake.
How To Get There
Take the Bus: It’s easy to buy tickets online and catch the bus from Zagreb bus terminal. We took the first bus departing at 5:45am and take a bit more than 2 hours, arriving to Plitvice Lake at 8:10am. Bus tickets cost 9-11 Euros, with student and children discounts available! I bought my tickets here.
What To Do
The Entry fee to get in is 110 Kuna (10 Euros). There are countless things to do here! This park is huge and can easily take a whole day to explore. The lake has multiple trails to choose from, so we gave ourselves the whole day to walk around, stop by for photos and took a little ferry across the other side. My personal favourite was renting a rowing boat and taking in the stunning view of the waterfalls and crystal clear water… it was so tempting to jump in for a swim was unfortunately that’s not allow.
Important Tips
It’s important to avoid the crowd and get there early! Preferable as soon as the park opens. My friends and I intentionally got on the earliest bus so we could beat the crowd. It was so worth it when it seemed like we had the entire park to ourselves! Another tip is to pack some snacks and lunch. There are several spots and benches to sit down for a little picnic! Also bring enough water and comfortable walking shoes as you will be walking a lot, its important to stay hydrated especially on a hot summer day. If you plan to travel elsewhere after visiting Plitvice Lake (like we did), there is a luggage storage available for free which is close to the cashier counter. Here, you can easily store your suitcase of rucksack for the day while explore the park.
Where To Next
